Hi all,
Shots, shots, and more shots. One of the first that I did when I first learned that I had been accepted into the Teachers for Global Classrooms program I was schedule an appointment with my physician. So last August I sat in my doctor's office and had a conversation that went something along these lines... Me, "I am going to be traveling to a foreign country next summer." My doctor, "Where are going?" Me, "I'm not sure yet." My doctor, "When will you know?" Me, "Well, I am not exactly sure about that either. But I think sometime in late November or early December." My doctor, "OK, well let's see how best we can prepare. We will review your immunizations and plan for any updates necessary there. Then once you have more information about where you will be traveling we will review and schedule any necessary vaccinations. Sound like a good plan?" Me, "Yes," I readily agreed. In my head, at the time, I was proud of myself. I am planning ahead I thought with some satisfaction. I am being responsible and organized, planning and preparing so far in advance of my travel. So how did it happen then that I ended up with an appointment at a travel clinic, exactly one week from the day I am scheduled to leave for my TGC field experience in Colombia, to get a yellow fever immunization?
