Global education
Assessment tools
Begin your global education study with a needs self-assessment of where you, your classroom, your school, and your school district are in terms of knowledge of global issues, culture and connections. The American Forum for Global Education provides a free checklist that you can use to begin the assessment process. www.scribd.com/document/238251541/Global-Education-Checklist
The Global Competence Matrix is another useful assessment tool. The Global Competence Matrix focuses on the four global competencies and provides specific descriptors of student actions for each of the four competencies. The Global Competence Matrix was created as part of the Council of Chief State Schools Officers' EdSteps Project in partnership with the Asia Society Partnership for Global Learning. www.scribd.com/document/238196018/Global-Competence-Matrix
For a simple and straightforward checklist to help you plan your lessons, build globalized units, and assess how well you have embedded global competencies into your lesson plans use Edutopia's Checklist for Teaching Global Competence. backend.edutopia.org/sites/default/files/pdfs/stw/edutopia-stw-jsis-additional-book-global-competence-excerpt.pdf
Use the Global Leadership Performance Outcomes and Rubrics by the Asia Society for student friendly "I can" statements for each of the four global competencies.

Utilizing technology is a great way to connect with other teachers, students, classrooms, and schools around the world. Technology also provides numerous opportunities to share and connect with your own students.

Additional Resources
Keep an eye out for additional resources! New resources are being developed every day! I "google" global education once every couple of weeks to see what's new. For example, I recently came across this document, Global Education Guidelines: A Handbook for Educators to Understand and Implement Global Education developed by the Global Education Week Network in coordination with the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe. ge_guidelines_english.pdf I also routinely search Pinterest for lots of great ideas and resources. Follow me, and others, on Pinterest with #TGC to see my boards on global education. Go to the Teach page of this site for lots of other great resources and ideas! |
